Paper Sculpted Doll Making Work Shop
with Artist Howard Marshall Jr

This Saturday 02/03/18,
The William Grant Still Arts Center
will be hosting a FREE Paper Sculpted Doll Making Work Shop
with Artist Howard Marshall Jr
from 2 PM – 4 PM!!!

An accomplished artist for over 30 years, Marshall’s ‘Paper & Prescience’ was exhibited at both the Junior Arts Center Gallery in Barnsdall Park and the Noah Purifoy Gallery at the Watts Towers Arts Center. In 2007, he designed the poster for the 26th Annual Watts Towers Day of the Drum Festival and the 31st Annual Simon Rodia Watts Towers Jazz Festival.

Marshall began his association with the Watts Towers Arts Center in 1983 and continues to teach art there today. He has also taught at the Museum of Contemporary art (MOCA), UCLA, the Barnsdall Junior Art Center, the William Grant Still Arts Center and at several other programs and schools in the Los Angeles area.

He passionately transfers his love for art to the artists of tomorrow, believing that Community Arts Centers help to expand their young minds. Marshall’s teaching philosophy is to encourage “Every young person to use his or her imagination”

Howard Marshall, Jr. (b 1956) continues to acknowledge that his African-American and Native-American roots have greatly inspired and influenced the creative works he produces. Howard is a native Angeleno who has been devoted to the pursuit of his artistic and singing career. His collection of rare early books on African-American culture and his innate talent hace merged so that his singing of the negro spirituals gets translated into his art.
