Delton – Percussion

Delton Davis is a West Coast percussionist, educator and author. But he’s so much more! Through his Kids Drumming programs, Delton is teaching children about themselves and their connection to the world around them.

Guiro (Class 1)

Learn to play the “Guiro.” This is part of our 12th Annual African American Composers’ Series, Spanish Grease: The Life and Sounds of Willie Bobo. People of all ages and levels can learn.

Clave (Class 2)

2, 3, son clave… all you need are two sticks to play along with Willie Bobo’s “Fried Neck Bones and Some Home Fries.” Delton Davis teaches the basics of the clave in this short instructional video.

Music & Movement (Class 1)

In this early childhood class with Delton Davis, you can join with your child ages 3- 6 to use their body as a percussive instrument. We clap, rub hands, snap and lightly tap to make sounds and play along with Willie Bobo’s song Timbale Groove.

Percussion

William Grant Still Arts Center, Delton Davis shows us that our throat, our tongues and our mouths are our instruments. Follow him as he uses Willie Bobo’s song Round Trip to demonstrates vocal percussive techniques.

Music & Movement Class 3

This class is perfect for kids age 3-6 and even more fun when family joins. Our teaching artist, Delton Davis shows some techniques to move and make sounds with your body. Follow along and clap your hands and stomp your feet to Willie Bobo’s song “Round Trip”.

Beginning Drumset

Now that you know how to properly hold your drumsticks, William Grant Still Arts Center’s teaching Artist, Delton Davis show’s you your first move onto a drum pad or snare, paradiddles. Have fun with this exercise, pear – ah – did – ul… tap, tap tap.

Music & Movement (Class 4)
